"A stunning opening..a wonderful recital" - Wissam Boustany, international flute soloist, commenting on Julia's solo recital
Julia White (oboe and cor anglais) gained her Postgraduate Advanced Diploma with distinction from Trinity College of Music in 2005. She was also awarded the 2004/05 Wilfred Hambleton Chamber Music Prize for the most outstanding contribution to wind chamber music.
Julia has a particular fondness for interdisciplinary work, and recent performances include a pastoral series to accompany exhibitions at Tate Britain, and a recording of newly commissioned music for oboe and harp to accompany Euripedes' Medea at Baron's Court Theatre. She is a regular orchestral player, and is a founder member of St. Paul's Sinfonia, a professional orchestra based in South London. She is also featured on Ready, Steady, Blow!, a CD of graded oboe music to inspire beginners released on the Oboe Classics label, and gave a professional recital at Buscot Park at the invitation of the Oxfordshire Youth Music Trust after performing in the final of the Thames Valley Young Musician's platform.
She has a varied background, and during studies for her degree in Modern History and English at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Julia played in many orchestras and ensembles. After graduating, she continued studying the oboe while also pursuing such diverse interests as museum work (she is co-author of a museum collections publication), counselling training and work with the homeless. However, music has always been a great preoccupation, and after beginning more intensive musical study in 2000, she first received a Masters in Performance from Birmingham Conservatoire before continuing her oboe studies at Trinity with Tess Miller.
For her studies at Trinity, Julia received a postgraduate scholarship, awards from the Joan Greenfield Fellowship and the Leathersellers' Trust, and was presented with a new oboe by the Cherubim Trust.
